Jane Addams Hull House Association
Mission:
Jane Addams Hull House Association’s mission is to improve social conditions for under-served people and communities by providing innovative, creative programs and by advocating for related public policy reforms.
History:
Founded in 1889 by Jane Addams on Chicago’s west side, Jane Addams Hull House Association (Hull House) became America’s premier institution of service, advocacy and philanthropy for the city’s poor and underserved. The original Halsted Street settlement house set the standard for working with poor, marginalized communities of people, and systemically correcting social injustice. Miss Addams went on to become the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work at Hull House. Today, the original work of Hull House continues throughout the city of Chicago impacting over 60,000 individuals, families and communities
Overview of Current Programs:
120 years later, Hull House offers a diverse set of programs within four divisions to fulfill its mission and to provide a flexible service delivery model to meet the changing needs of individuals and communities. The four divisions include Child Development Services, Child Welfare, Family Services and Community Building, and, Public Policy and Advocacy.
